Forsythia (Golden Bell)
Updated: Sep 12
Botanical Profile & Seasonal Harvest
Forsythia is famous as one of spring’s earliest heralds, bursting into vibrant yellow, four-petaled blooms before its leaves even appear. While the bright spring flowers yield a delicate, antioxidant-rich oil, the late-summer and autumn seed fruit (capsules) has traditionally served as the primary powerhouse of the plant in botanical medicine.

The Flowers: Hand-harvested during early spring at peak bloom, carefully dried, and slow-infused to capture water-soluble flavonoids and light botanical lipids.
The Fruit (Lian Qiao): Harvested as green capsules (Qing Qiao) or fully ripe golden-brown pods (Lao Qiao), known for high concentrations of bioactives that support clear, calm skin.
Ancient Roots as Lian Qiao
Traditional Eastern Herbalism
Documented for centuries in Eastern materia medica as a premier "heat-clearing" herb used to ease inflammation, soothe redness, and detoxify tissues.
The Golden Bloom Phase
Early Spring Harvest
Blossoms are gathered during their short spring bloom window, when the petals hold their highest concentration of protective flavonoids.
Fruit Capsule Maturity
Autumn Seed Harvest
Seed pods mature in late summer and autumn, harvesting intense concentrations of bitter lignans and soothing caffeic compounds.
Barrier-Balancing Infusion
Modern Skincare Practice
Infused into light jojoba oil to deliver natural rutin and antioxidants directly to skin prone to environmental stress and redness.
Key Active Compounds & Skincare Benefits
Forsythin & Phillyrin: Potent natural compounds known for calming skin reactivity, reducing the appearance of redness, and balancing stressed skin.
Rutin (Vitamin P): A powerful bioflavonoid that supports capillary strength, helping to tone and strengthen delicate facial skin.
Antioxidant Protection: Rich in polyphenols that shield the skin against environmental pollutants and oxidative damage.
Our Seed-to-Shelf Infusion Process
Spring Blossom Gathering: We hand-pick our Forsythia blossoms at peak yellow bloom on dry spring mornings.
Moisture-Free Drying: Petals are air-dried in a dark, ventilated space to remove all water content while locking in heat-sensitive bioflavonoids.
Slow Jojoba Extraction: The dried golden flowers are gently submerged in organic, cold-pressed jojoba oil, allowing the oil ester to slowly draw out the plant's lipid-soluble nutrients.
Over the coming months, we will be incorporating this golden spring resource into select botanical formulations designed to soothe and protect the skin barrier.
